The top Cypriot teams started signing players from abroad
in hopes of new successes in the upcoming season, while all teams in the first
division are trying to reinforce their rosters with some quality local signings.
The ruling champions from Strovolos signed the 30-years
old Serbian power forward Ninoslav Marjanovic and renewed the contract of the
experienced Serbian center Aleksandar Damjanovic. Marjanovic started last
season with the Greek A1 side PAOK Marfin Thessaloniki but moved back to Serbia
early in the season. However, he returned to Greece last November after agreeing
terms with Egaleo AO and averaged 7.8 points and 4.9 rebounds per game in 18
appearances on the court.
Proteas EKA AEL renewed the contract of Alexis Liatsos for
another three years, while both Konstantinos Perentos and Giorgos Palalas are
set to leave the national cup holders. There are indications that Palalas could
sign with the fierce city rivals Pizza Express Apollon.
After renewing a contract with Hassapis Omonoia, Renos
Pittalis signed small forward Alexandros Georgiadis who played for the second
division runner-up Philips
College last year.
Pittalis’ next target is allegedly Giorgos Neofitou who could be returning to Cyprus after five seasons in Greece.
